HSP Free Write Wednesdays, February 17, March 17, April 21, 2021

Dear HSPs,

36th HSP Gathering Retreat, Sept 2019 Whidbey Island, Washington

I’ve found one of the most nurturing things I can do for my HSP self-care is to spend time with other highly sensitive people.  See “The Importance of Having An HSP Dyad Partner.  http://www.lifeworkshelp.com/HSP-Newsletter/top-ten-reasons-to-have-a-hsp-dyad-partnership/
I can say with confidence, the things listed in the article above are experienced at the HSP Gathering Retreats.  🙂  And, we experience a few of these things in our HSP Freewrites as well.

Now, more than ever, it seems important for we HSPs to make our voices heard, to speak our truth, identify any unaddressed grief or loss issues, share our hopes, dreams, and visions of the future not only for ourselves but for our circles of influence, and the world at large.

This is why I am offering HSP Free Write Wednesdays — where we gather for a special time of sharing, learning, and growing through discussion and free writing. We will use a variety of writing prompts to spur our inquiries.  I have personally found this  Freewriting practice helpful to elicit thoughts, feelings, needs, or perspectives that are often hidden away in our unconscious minds.  The best part is that no is experience necessary, and there is no ‘right’ way to do this.

What is Freewriting?
Freewriting is basically a stream of consciousness writing within a set time period responding to certain writing prompts.  These prompts can activate images, thoughts, metaphors, and feelings often inviting a deeper connection with Self.  I am honored to be able to offer this affordable opportunity for HSPs to spend time with each other in a creative way.

Here are a couple of (anonymous) free-writes from our last group meeting:

Prompt:  “What inspired me at age 10 was…”

What inspired me at age 10 was… I was a child, innocent, before puberty, before the patriarchy, I was inspired by mud pies, innocence, I was quiet, libraries, books, crafts, nature, solitude, thinking, being alone, outside, the sun on my body, innocence, was I happy at that age? Girl Scouts, Grade 4, reading novels behind my math books, not super happy at school. Friends – I don’t remember any, awkward, I remember age 12, the budding breasts, no bra, shame, crushes on boys, but age 10 was still pure, innocence, but also not innocent: the Vietnam War, family secrets, Grandpa sick, nowhere to hide from all of the feelings, no one to guide me through, but there was comfort and inspiration in the things that comfort and inspire me today. I was true to myself then, before the onslaught of being a woman tore it away. Watching nature, flowers grow, silence, and books, feeling my body move, swimming, innocence, my bike.

Prompt:  “Moments I want more of in 2021:…”

Moments I want more of in 2021: I want more moments like last night’s art presentation, where I was delighted emotionally and visually. It was a beautiful experience to feel connected to the artist through her vulnerability, the process of her art, her successes and failures. I want to be surprised by something unexpected – liking collage, and appreciating it as a serious form of art. I want to be with people who are real, genuine and intelligent. Moments I want more of in 2021: quiet, smart, make my brain work, tenderness, be part of something bigger, people who bring meaning to my life, intentional, stretching, growing and living on purpose. Seeing the light on nature and wondering how to paint it, learning, growing, getting comfortable with my aging body, getting comfortable with living a life that has a beginning and and end, coming to terms with the suffering and learning to LIVE with it all.
